Ramsgate is a seaside resort on the south coast and is a very popular holiday destination. Ramsgate is located on the mouth of a river known by the Zulu name Bilanhlolo ("the marvellous boiler") for the bubbles caused by strong currents making it look like the water is boiling.

Ramsgate is very busy over the summer holidays in December and has protected swimming, a tidal pool as well as a fresh water pool, and a lagoon. It especially draws young crowds over the holidays.

The wide variety of habitats, from caost and wetland environment to forest, woodland and grassland, are the primary source of this richness. But above all, it is the forest birding that is unparalleled. Forest birds with their brilliant colouration and secretive habits, provide the most rewarding nad challenging birding of all.
